Child asylum seeker takes bias case The Irish Times - Wednesday, April 11, 2012 Writing in the Times CAROL COULTER reports that a child asylum seeker is taking a legal case alleging perceptible bias on the part of a member of the Refugee Appeals Tribunal.
This is the second time a member of the tribunal has faced legal challenge on the basis of an allegation of bias. The previous case, concerning James Nicholson, ended with his resignation from the tribunal and a change in its practice with regard to providing information on previous cases to solicitors acting for asylum seekers. Court judgment major step forward in refugee protection

Brussels, 28 February 2012 – The judgment by the European Court of Human Rights will go a long way towards strengthening the protection of persons fleeing persecution and other human rights violations, according to a statement from the Jesuit Refuge Service Europe.
In May 2009 a boat carrying approximately 200 forced migrants was pushed back by the Italian authorities to Libya. The migrants were never given an opportunity to lodge a claim for protection. Instead, they were handed over to the Libyan authorities under dictator Ghaddafi, placing them in in danger of being forcibly returned to their countries of origin, i.e. of persecution.

Cois Tine Annual Report 2011

The 2011 Cois Tine Annual Report gives an overview of our work during 2011 when just under eight thousand visitors came to our Centre. While this is slightly down on the previous year it still shows that Cois Tine was a busy place during the year.
